Got a new toy! Evodent has been really taking the lab world by storm and are hoping to appeal to the Doctor market with the new Evodent 120 DLP Printer. Not a bad deal at $12,000 which INCLUDES a light box and ultrasonic cleaning station. I have been pretty vocal in telling docs that 95% of what the average (like me) doc does is surgical guides, aligners, and night guards, so printers like the Form 2 and Moonray work great at under $4000. But there are going to be those that want to do more, like die models (Geller Models, Implant Analog Models and long span temporaries that need resolutions under 65 microns. Well if you do a lot of crown and bridge with CAD/CAM this may be one for you. Patient has been in aligners for a few months and we went through the one refinement in Exceed Ortho and I just needed a few more trays to close up some spaces around 8 and 9 so I went with Archform, which is another in office aligner system that only charges $50 a case. Evodent has a very easy to use printer software very similar to PreForm which is Formlabs’ printing software.
The Evodent 120 has a lot of great features. I love the big hard drive and large touch screen. Although it took an hour to print the three models these were printed at 50 micron layers, which would have taken other DLP printers about 2 hours. Aligners fit great, which were vacuumed with a Drufomat. Have a few more case this and next week to showcase this new upcoming printer.
