I got Todd hooked on 3D printing and right out of the gate he showed me something! One somewhat annoying aspect of most scanners, not just CEREC is that the files are exported as shells. As you can see in the gray image, which is mesh mixer, we have some work to do in order to get this printed. Well Todd was playing in Ortho and discovered that we can get bases right out of our CEREC.
To save material you want to use the smallest base you can get. I found parallel to be the best for that. The base is still thick but for the newbies this will make their job a lot easier. Play with the arrows and tuck in the bases and the sides to not waste material and time. Export as STL and import into your printer software. Thats Formlabs PreForm printing software on the lower right!
