This was a case that was not treatment planned for an indirect restoration. On the x-rays, the amalgam had simple recurrent caries, and a direct composite resin restoration was planned.
However, once the amalgam was removed, a fracture line was seen to go deep into the mesial surface. Slight staining, and no occlusal symptoms left me in a quandary: restore directly as an MOD but have potential difficulty with establishing an interproximal contact between the canine and the premolar. Or, conservatively cover the cusps and restore indirectly and digitally.
