Here is my first Zirconia crown in my Speed Fire oven and I have to say I am pretty excited! #2 Implant placed about 6 months ago. We are in the posterior next to some old PFMs so I wasn’t worried about the translucency. In fact I wanted something opaque to match the other opaque teeth.
Split file in CEREC. Its sort of a catch 22. You want the margin to be apical for esthetics but as you go more sub gingival cement becomes and issue and the shoulder and abutment become more thin. So we opted for a more supra gingival margin position as you can’t even see the buccal due to the cheek.
If you have not gotten Todd’s SRS bur go to www.digitalenamel.com and get it! I start with a disc to remove the prue then just use the blue part of the SRS to get the sprue smaller.
This next step is so important!! If you are dry milling you really need to remove all the powder. This is another case I did and I didn’t really understand that and look at the powder in the grooves after sintering! You can’t get that out. If you buy the speed fire you get this lame brush, but just use compressed air.
I accentuated the anatomy with a thin diamond then hand polished after sintering with just a rubber wheel and dashing. Personally I should have just cemented it at the polished state but I wanted to play with some lustre pastes.
Here is the final. Note the supra gingival buccal. It was so cool using good old fashioned easy clean up glass ionomer cement. I have to say I am a fan of Zirconia now in the posterior.
