Mentoring 3 Guided Edentulous Student Cases

From Tuesday to Saturday of Last week I lectured at the Engel Institute Mentoring 3 Edentulous Program.  The Emphasis was on treating the Edentulous Patient from Surgery to Restoration.  My Emphasis was on Guided Surgery and Restoring the Edentulous Patient:

Over the next few weeks I’ll post cases from the Students.  These docs were on fire!!  Over 80 implants placed on a variety of edentulous case types, a few immediates, some that needed ridge splitting, mostly Guided, some not:

All cased were worked up by Dr Todd Engel and Charles Bahn, from Anatomage.  Dr Engel decided on Anatomahe due to the great Quality, a drill kit with stops, and its Universal Nature.  I was really impressed with Charles, incredibly knowledgable on all things Guided.  This patient had a great ridge, a lot of attached tissue.  The molar was later extracted after the implants placed, but it served as a nice retentive feature while it was in there:

The Doc that did this case was awesome and he had a great technique for areas that lacked attached tissue.  In the #20 position you can see a tag of tissue, what he did was a little half punch on the lingual.  I’ll describe what he did with the tag later, but really cool stuff.  These guides fit great BTW. Anatomage includes all pins with the case and a 2.0 pilot.

Very Stable Guide and all the Anatomage drills have stops.  These keys fit great and have a really nice offset.

In the Implants went, for the sake of time we did not load this case.  Again, note the tissue on the buccal of #20

Here is the Doc’s cool tissue technique.  He took that tag of tissue and went under it with a diamond to de-epitheliaize it.  Then, with an Orban Knife, he inverted it and tacked it down with a suture.  This in essence is a very nicely bulked out connective tissue graft.
