One really cool thing you can do with a CEREC STL is 3D print whats called a Geller model, which has ditched dies that can be popped in and out of the model. ExoCAD’s model builder program can take your STL and design a Geller model is just a few minutes. This was taken off a dental model (note I took another scan later without #19). This was printed on my Moonray S in the gray resin.
WTF? The dies did not even close to seating! One thing thats important to know a
bout 3D printing is that we are dealing with a vat of flowable composite. And just like in dentistry, resin shrinks when exposed to light. That light source can diminish over time and use. So if things are not fitting, you can go into the Rayware software and calibrate your machine. Its really simple. This slider model is printed and you will be prompted to say what number the slider ends up and just measure the length and width of the block.
The next batch of dies printed will. I had printed before a temporary bridge and plays with some stain, obviously a bit too much! But the dies and margins were back to fitting well!
If you want to play with printers come to the next dental 3D printing party in Vegas Jan 19/20!!
