It may still be Monday in the states but it is Tuesday in Kyoto and I have some serious jet lag, so here is a post that has three things that I am excited about in 3D tech right now: Digital Outsourcing, 3D Printing, and some cool variations on zirconia or as some say “Zirkonia”. I had the opportunity to do a crown on my hygienist so I thought I would pull out a few high tech toys. I took a triple tray impression of a crown she needed on #30 and scanned her in the $4500 Shining lab scanner. I sent the STL to my buddy Jesse Flor at Digital Dental Solutions who can do a Katana Zirconia crown, stain and glazed sintered etc for $45 and also the Evident $2.50 design and Alien Mill “Free Crown Friday” solid translucent Zirconia crown for free, just $3.82 for shipping, so $6 bucks all in. If you want Alien to design it is $8 bucks, and “just between us girls”, I liked the $2.50 Evident design better!
The Alien crown was just hand polished. I think all can see that Jesse’s Katana crown looks way better. The gray model is the $725 Phrozen shuffle using $50/L resin and the yellow is the $15K plus Kulzer printer with $200/L resin. I think you can see that the margins look great on both.
Jesse’s $45 Katana crown on the left looks way better than the Alien $6 buck crown on the right. Guess which my hygienist chose, yep the $6 crown. Don’t get it, but she is the boss.
