Making aligners in office is a huge plus for both you and your patient’s. For about $250 you can do an entire aligner case vs $1800 with Invisalign. But one annoying thing is that we still have to use a pressure former and trim the aligners. 3D printer and resin companies are working hard to have a printable aligner material. I have had doubts until I made one for a patient that was losing a lingual wire. We all have these and I just don’t do fixed retainers anymore so I usually transition them to an invisalign type aligner. Patient scanned in CEREC. The STL was exported then imported into ExoCAD in the Bite Splint module and the thickness was dialed down to 1mm. I usually use 1mm sheets for retainers and .75mm for aligners. ExoCAD has a very simple “margin line” to design the aligner.
The Aligner was printed on the Moonray S printer at 100 microns in about 45 minutes. The fit was perfect and my staff was excited to not have to trim a retainer! NextDent Ortho Clear resin was used!
